The Online Scotch Whisky Awards (OSWAs) bring together respected whisky commentators, creators, and voices from across the world to celebrate the best whiskies enjoyed by the community. These fully independent awards focus on quality, value, and accessibility, with the final results decided entirely by public vote.

Winning Best World Whisky for Wire Works Bourbon Barrel — an award from the very heartland of Scotch whisky — is an incredible highlight for the White Peak team. We’re incredibly grateful for the support of whisky enthusiasts near and far, and proud to see English whisky recognised at this level.

Wire Works Bourbon Barrel

Bourbon Barrel forms the backbone of our Provenance Core Range — founded on provenance, heritage, and a flavour-first approach to whisky making. And the good news? It’s here to stay.

Released in June 2024, Wire Works Bourbon Barrel was our first-ever ex-bourbon barrel-only full maturation, featuring some of the oldest casks in our warehouse.

Ex-bourbon barrels are considered a relatively “inactive” cask type, allowing the distillery’s unique spirit character to shine through. This style highlights the core of our identity — revealing the true flavour of our Derbyshire-made spirit.

Provenance, Heritage and Flavour

The emphasis in our whisky-making has always been on creating flavour at every stage. While careful cask selection plays a part, much of our whisky’s character is forged during mashing, fermentation and distillation— the details we obsess over to craft a truly distinctive spirit.

In our pursuit of flavour and provenance, we’ve built a deep connection with our region. One of the most distinctive aspects of our process is the use of fresh brewer’s yeast from our friends at Thornbridge Brewery in the Peak District — adding layers of flavour that make Wire Works Whisky uniquely our own.

On awards night, we were also blown away by the results in the People’s Choice and Best New Distillery categories. To be recognised among so many distilleries we admire made the evening even more special — and we couldn’t be prouder.
