Tasting Notes
Sweet & savoury, with hazelnuts, freshly roasted coffee and dark chocolate, dates, cranberry, and a gentle wisp of smoke
Nose: Vanilla fudge, coffee, hazelnuts, baked apple pie, marzipan
Palate: Dark chocolate, Black Forest gateaux, cracked black pepper, salted caramel, Medjool dates, espresso
Finish: Rich dark chocolate, roasted malt, dark cherries, touch of smoke
Wire Works Necessary Evil Finish is a bold expression of our Derbyshire provenance, heritage, and flavour. Crafted in collaboration with neighbouring Thornbridge Brewery, this lightly peated single malt is first matured in ex-bourbon barrels, then finished for around eight months in casks that previously held Thornbridge’s award-winning Necessary Evil imperial stout.
The finishing casks began life ageing Wire Works whisky, then matured Necessary Evil stout (World Beer Awards 2024 World’s Best Flavoured Beer), before returning to us for this unique final transformation – layering depth, nutty sweetness, and local character into every drop.
Necessary Evil Finish did it again in the World Whisky Masters. Building on a Gold in 2022, in 2025 it’s achieved the highest honour a ‘Masters’ medal!
